In2it makes getting active easy

In2it is coming up with new ways of combating common problems associated with youth inactivity.
In2it is a product of North Shore City Council’s Youth Destinations Project which aims to get more 10 to 15 year olds
active in their leisure time.
Auckland University of Technology monitor and evaluate the project and have found that youth find it difficult to get
active because other activities are on at the same time or they are not sure about what is on.
North Shore City’s Youth Destinations Project manager, Dan Kane, says the in2it electronic newsletter and video updates
on the in2it website aim to make it easier for youth to find out about activities available to them on the Shore.
“We’re aiming to make sure the in2it website is the first place youth think to check when they’re looking for something
to do in their free time,” he says.
Glenfield resident and father of three, Wayne Peachey, says his family love to keep active and spend quality time
together at the local parks.
“We have been to a number of in2it events including the slip n slide and beach volleyball, and receive the in2it
newsletter.
“It’s super easy – all I have to do is pack a drink bottle and take the kids down to the park. It saves me so much time
not having to worry about packing sports equipment and thinking of new ideas to keep the kids excited,” says Mr Peachey.
Although winter’s just around the corner the in2it events are not slowing down.
Mr Kane says the BMX demo and Fly a Kite Day took place over the weekend and both had great turnouts.
“We had about 120 kids, the majority of whom had never been to the BMX park before, give BMXing a go and we had some
massive extreme kites being flown down at Barrys Point Reserve.
“Over the holidays make sure you look out for our new van – the in2it Hook Up – which will be cruising around the parks
with music, giveaways and lots of stuff to throw around,” Mr Kane says.
“We’ve also built new skate ramps and grinder boxes to roll out at ActivZone during the colder months
“This will be the perfect place to hang out when it’s too wet to skate outside. We may also be bringing these to your
school during lunchtime but we’ll make sure to keep you well informed about this one,” he says.
