Your Weekly Council Update
Here are the decisions of Wellington City Council’s Strategy and Policy Committee – 17 April 2008.
The Committee:
* Agreed to apply to place appropriate Council owned and managed land into the Government’s Permanent Forest Sink
Initiative and the Emissions Trading Scheme with the objective of obtaining forest carbon sink credits. This is subject
to confirmation that there is no land-use overlap arising from Ngati Toa’s Treaty claims. The Council further agreed to
apply to place Clelland Forest into the Forestry Emissions Trading Scheme, and to develop a policy for managing carbon
credits and liabilities that arise.
* Agreed to the trial of “in service” taxis using existing bus lanes in Adelaide Road, Glenmore Street, Chaytor Street
and Kaiwharawhara Road for one year. The trial will be monitored and results reported to the Strategy and Policy
Committee.
* Noted that detailed bus priority schemes are being developed, firstly for Courtenay Place, Kent/Cambridge Terrace and
Taranaki Street, followed by the central city.
