Police Follow-Up Te Haerenga Recruiting Interest

An extra police recruitment seminar is being held at Wellington Central Police Station this week to follow up on
interest generated through the recent Te Haerenga road show.
Clive Puna, Wellington City Police Iwi Liaison Officer, said Te Haerenga involved 14 sworn and nonsworn or civilian
police performing kapa haka at several main cities and towns over a three-week period to help encourage potential
recruits.
"A total of 380 young Maori people expressed an interest in policing, 20 of them from the Wellington District," Mr Puna
said. "We are really encouraged by the feedback and are holding a follow-up seminar for those 20 local people on
Thursday night."
The seminar is at 7pm on Thursday, 17 April, at Wellington Central Police Station on the corner of Victoria and Harris
Streets. The session will take about 90 minutes and will give potential recruits details of what skills they need to
have before joining, and more information about the training process.
Mr Puna said the seminar is not just for the people who attended the Te Haerenga road show in Porirua. "Maori or non
Maori, if you are interested in joining police in Wellington District, now or in the future, this is an opportunity to
come along and learn.
"Whanau and friends are most welcome to come with you."
