April Holidays Discovery Trail
Take a closer look at the Botanic Gardens this autumn.
Every school holidays the Christchurch Botanic Gardens hosts a free discovery trail for children aged 5-12 introducing them to different delights that can be found in and around the gardens.
This months theme, “Patterns and Puzzles” adds another dimension to mathematics by showing children how it can be applied to nature as well as in the classroom.
Activities will involve finding shapes, taking measurements and reading coordinates. The idea is to gain a greater appreciation for the shapes and patterns to be found in nature. From the variety of leaf shapes to the various patterns that have inspired artists and scientists throughout the ages.
Although the trail is self-guided, adult supervision is required.
The trail is FREE and will run from the 19 April to the 4 May. Trail sheets can be picked up from the Information Centre between 10.15am and 4pm.
