CHRISTCHURCH CITY COUNCIL MEDIA RELEASE
Council staff and contractors are working as quickly as possible to restore vehicle access through Lake Terrace Road, after the collapse of a drain wall on Tuesday.
On Tuesday night the walls of the concrete lined drain, which runs under Lake Terrace Road from Horseshoe Lake to the Shirley Golf Course, collapsed. Council contractors had been working on the drain as part of upgrade work.
The collapse has forced part of Lake Terrace Road to be closed while repairs are undertaken.
The Christchurch City Council and City Care are working under urgency to repair the drain and get the road reopened. It is hoped that by tomorrow afternoon one lane of Lake Terrace road may be able to be reopened. It may take several weeks before the repairs are finished and complete access to the road is available.
Currently there is no through access along Lake Terrace Road, from Marshlands Road to New Brighton Road, and no through access on Horseshoe Lake Road, on the loop on New Brighton Road. The area at the intersection of Horseshoe Lake Road and Lake Terrace Road is currently closed to all traffic.
