Committee focuses on Lake Rd transport issues
March 14, 2008
Two issues centred on Takapuna’s busy Lake Rd area were hot topics at the March meeting of North Shore City Council’s infrastructure and environment committee.
A residents’ delegation opposing the on-road cycle lanes in Lake Rd between Devonport and Takapuna tabled an interim petition.
Committee chair Ken McKay says residents concerns will be further considered by council staff in a report back the committee in May. The report will also update the committee on traffic flows following the implementation of better signal phasing and other improvements.
The committee confirmed the terms of reference for the council’s review of its Strategic Cycle Plan, which is scheduled to be undertaken between now and July.
The committee also resolved to extend the current temporary closure of the left turn from Lake Rd into Napier Ave – instigated as part of the traffic management plan for the Lake Rd/Esmonde Rd upgrade.
In a move to combat “rat-runners” cutting through from Lake Rd into Esmonde Rd, the committee decided to extend by a further three months the current temporary closure of the left turn from Lake Rd into Napier Ave.
The three month extension will begin from the time the intersection upgrade is completed in April. Traffic flows in the area will be monitored over this time.
