Public Presentation on Tukituki Water Quality

Hawke's Bay Regional Council will be hosting a public presentation on Wednesday 12 March on the management of the
Tukituki River, particularly focusing on water quality.
There have been questions raised by local MPs and members of the public about the water quality, particularly when algal
mats were found in the river earlier this year.
“Water quality in the Tukituki River has been monitored for many years and algae is a natural part of the river with
algal blooms a common appearance during prolonged periods of low flow in the river,” said Helen Codlin, Council’s
Strategic Development Manager.
"This public meeting will make use of the information provided to Regional Councillors last month, after they asked for
a full outline on the state of the river and the monitoring that is done."
The presentation will give an overview of the science behind many Council policies, the monitoring programmes and how
the planning and consents processes work. A number of land management methods also being used by the Council to improve
water quality will be outlined.
The meeting is at the Havelock North Community Centre at 7.30pm.
