Information from the public has today helped police find a man who went missing from his Akatarawa home two nights ago.
Sergeant Jo Holden, Wellington District Search and Rescue Coordinator, said Mr William French, 26, was found safe and well at Peka Peka Beach late this morning. He's now back with his family.
Media publicity overnight resulted in information from several members of the public who had seen Mr French walking on Akatarawa Road and hitch hiking on State Highway 1. This morning a walker told police of finding a backpack and thermos flask at Peka Peka Beach. Police found Mr French a short time later.
Police thank media and the public for their assistance.
