Bring the kids to Omana for Children’s Day

The Auckland Regional Council is inviting families to celebrate national Children’s Day at Omana Regional Park on Sunday
2 March.
National Children’s Day is an ideal time to spend with the family, so why not come to Omana Children’s Day for some
fresh air, beautiful scenery and heaps of fun and games.
The annual event is organised by the ARC, and gets bigger and better each year. It provides the opportunity to escape
the big smoke for a fun filled day with the family.
Auckland Regional Council park ranger Mags Ramsey says the old favourites are there, along with some new and exciting
activities.
“You can ride on a tractor and trailer to a sheep sheering demo, play with the farm animals, have a go at orienteering,
make a kite, or play in the ‘Scout Village’ with its popular rope bridge and bungee slide.
“This year there is a samba band and you can join in with the kapa haka group from the local school too,” she says.
“We also have a big sandpit and fun games like wet sponge throwing and the hay bale maze. The puppet show is one of the
most popular things to watch, closely followed by the German Shepherd dogs on their agility course.
“The ARC Great Drain Game is an interactive show which teaches kids about how to look after their local creeks,” she
says.
Parking and entry to Omana Children’s Day are free, as are most activities. Some games and rides cost a couple of
dollars at the most. There is no Eftpos at the site, so bring along some cash.
Food will be for sale by local community groups, and families are welcome to bring a picnic and settle under one of the
majestic pohutukawa overlooking the sea.
Omana Regional Park is a great family park with picnic spots, camping, safe swimming at high tide, and gentle walks.
There are friendly farm animals, a variety of native birdlife and forest, and a strong cultural history, making a visit
to Omana and enjoyable and learning experience for all.
