Martin J Cowling volunteer management workshop

Published: Mon 18 Feb 2008 10:22 AM
When volunteers are hard to find and work for free - why would their managers sabotage their work?
This is one of the issues under focus from renowned international speaker Martin J Cowling at a workshop being offered by Volunteer Nelson in March.
Volunteer Nelson Manager Jude McNabb says Martin Cowling is one of Australia's leading consultants on volunteer management.
"Martin works regularly with individuals and organisations in the US, UK and Australia on areas connected with not for profit groups and effective volunteer management," she said. "He's a dynamic speaker with a wonderful supply of real life stories."
Martin will be presenting two topics - sabotage and volunteer motivation.
"He believes that understanding what drives volunteers is the key to building a lasting program or driving volunteers away," Ms McNabb said. "He'll also tell us about the five lethal factors volunteer managers unitentionally use, to harm their programmes."
The workshop is on Monday 17 March from 10.00 am 4.30 pm; it costs $80 and will be held at Nick Smith's rooms in Waimea Road. Refreshments and a light lunch will be provided. Find out more from Volunteer Nelson, 03 546 7681 or nvc[at]ts.co.nz
