Ellerslie train station to be upgraded
From next week, the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA) will begin work to upgrade Ellerslie train station. The work, which is part of ARTA’s programme to redevelop and upgrade stations along Auckland’s rail network, will begin on Monday 18 February and is expected to be completed in May 2008.
The upgrade includes:
• Extending the platform to accommodate six-car trains to cope with the anticipated growth in train passenger numbers. The platform will also be future-proofed to prepare for operating electric trains on Auckland rail services.
• Improved passenger shelters
• Installing CCTV cameras and upgrading platform lighting
• Resurfacing the platform to include safety markings and yellow tactile strips for the vision impaired
• New wayfinding signage.
Once the upgrade is completed, the Ellerslie station will offer rail passengers modern, safe and secure facilities.
Train services will continue to stop at the Ellerslie train station during the construction period. Disruption to passengers is expected to be minimal.
