The Terrace Assault, Wellington City
Wellington Police are presently investigating a serious assault that occurred within a residential car park area, adjacent to The Terrace at approximately midnight on Friday 8th February 2008.
A young woman was found by a member of the public bleeding and unconscious having suffered serious head injuries. She is presently in a serious but stable condition and is recovering in Wellington Hospital.
An area canvass and scene examinations have been conducted in several different areas in close proximity and including where the woman was found.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell of Wellington Police said "We are very grateful to residents and other members of the public who frequent this area of The Terrace" he said. "They provided us with information that has assisted us greatly in establishing some sequence to events leading up to and following this serious assault."
Upper Hutt Police attended an incident earlier today involving the sudden death of a 30 year old Wellington man. This death is not being treated as suspicious and has been referred to the Coroner.
This deceased man was personally known to the victim of last nights attack. Wellington Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this attack.
