Zoo offers adventurous night out in Africa
Aucklanders can enjoy the thrill of getting up close to some of Africa's most spectacular wildlife at Auckland Zoo's Africa Night on Sunday, 2 March, and at the same time help vital conservation projects.
This exclusive event offers guests a behind-the-scenes tour with zoo keepers to see animals such as rhinos, hippos, lions and giraffe, and a special African-themed dinner in the historic Old Elephant House.
Following dinner, guests will have the opportunity to hear guest speakers talk about their recent African adventures.
All profits from the evening, organised by Auckland Zoological Society members, will go to the Auckland Zoo Conservation Fund (AZCF). Established in 2000, AZCF supports a range of local and overseas field conservation projects for endangered wildlife. These include Ark in the Park (Waitakere Ranges), native frog recovery, 21st Century Tiger for the Sumatran tiger, and the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Project.
"There's no long-haul travel required for this safari - so everyone can keep their carbon emissions to a minimum, enjoy a unique night out with family and friends, and join the zoo in supporting some really key wildlife projects," says Auckland Zoo conservation officer, Peter Fraser.
"Zoo staff and Zoological Society members all volunteer their time and skills for a fundraising event such as this, and put a lot of energy into making it an unforgettable experience. There's no other night out like it".
Africa Night begins at 4.30pm and is limited to 75 people. For further details and to book, phone the Auckland Zoo Information Centre on 360 3805.
