Splash Planet Success
Long sunny days, a ‘locals’ card offering half-price admission and a better understanding of all Splash Planet has to
offer have meant the water theme park has experienced its best season yet.
Tens of thousands of guests have visited the Park since the season started on Monday 19 November. On its best day,
Thursday 3 January, 2,700 visitors came through the gates.
Splash Planet’s Manager Vicki Munro said the atmosphere in the Park had been buzzing all season.
“We have had a particularly good season. A big pull has been the locals’ club card. The amount of positive feedback
we’ve received from visitors is testament to how well the team has worked together this summer,” said Ms Munro. Splash
Planet employed 64 seasonal staff.
Vicki Munro also said awareness around the Park’s offering had grown.
“We consistently get comments from guests who say they are truly amazed with the facility. There’s a lot on offer here
besides the pools and slides.”
The summer season concludes on Waitangi Day Wednesday 6 February but the Park will be open every weekend until Easter
and then throughout the Easter break (21-24 March).
Operations Manager, Peran Hutchings, said it made financial sense to keep the Park open during the weekends.
“Most of our customers are kids and when they go back to school it isn’t economically viable for us to be open during
the week. It works well to close during the week, cut down our costs and push our resources into making the rest of the
summer weekends really fantastic,” said Mr Hutchings.
The weekday closure was trialled last season and proved to be successful with large numbers enjoying the last of the
summer sunshine during the weekend.
69,081 customers visited the park during the season (up to 31 Jan 08), compared with 49,557 customers last year. 2948
Club cards were purchased to date, already up by 1778 on the previous season.
36,238 children came into the park along with 30,956 adults.
