Wellington Zoo hosts Newtown neighbours for annual party
Wellington Zoo is hosting its third annual Neighbours Party this Thursday, 31 January from 5.00pm – 8.00pm, Zoo Chief Executive Karen Fifield announced today.
‘Each year, in conjunction with Wellington City Council, we invite our neighbours to come to the Zoo for an evening for free, so they can explore and experience the Zoo.’
‘Wellington Zoo is a community asset and we like our local community to feel involved with the Zoo, so having our close neighbours along for an evening each year connects us with those who live nearby.’
‘It is a great opportunity for our neighbours to meet the animals that they hear each morning – like the gibbons – and to learn about the other inhabitants of the Zoo. During the evening we have a special animal talks on, a free sausage sizzle, popsicles for the kids and the Push Play activity trailer will be here as well.’
‘‘Our local MP for Rongotai Annette King will be here, as will Wellington Mayor Kerry Prendergast. Invitations have been delivered so we’re looking forward to meeting our neighbours on Thursday evening,’ says Karen.
Wellington City Council City Housing Manager, Vicki McLaren, says the party is eagerly anticipated by housing tenants, who make up a large proportion of the Zoo’s neighbours. “Tenants tell us that they look forward to the party and really enjoy it on the day. It’s lots of fun.”
