Media Statement 21 January 2008 Police Recover Body From Water Off Kawau Island:
Rodney Police have recovered a body from the water off Kawau Island. The body is that of a 66 year old male Caucasian. Police say that about 1.30pm Sunday 20 January 2008 they were advised that a body had been discovered in the water in a location close to Kawau Island. The police launch Deodar was deployed to the scene and recovered the body.
The discovery was made by another yachtsman who was in the area. The body is believed to have been in the water only a short time.
A ketch belonging to the deceased has been located. It was found washed up on rocks in a location between Waiwera and Wenderholm Regional Park. Police say there are no suspicious circumstances. A post mortem is scheduled for later today. Next of kin are continuing to be informed. No name has yet been released. ENDS
