Helicopter Rescue of Injured Cyclists in Karapoti

Westpac Rescue Helicopter Responds to two Injured cyclists in Karapoti forest region over the weekend
The Wellington based Westpac Rescue Helicopter was called to rescue an injured cyclist at Karapoti track Saturday the 19th Jan at 4:00 pm.
The cyclist had broken his lower leg and had the luck that two quad bikes arrived a short time later and were able to raise the alarm. The cyclist was an experienced 28 year old male.
The helicopter was able to land near by and the Wellingotn Free paramedics were taken to the scene by Quad bike. He was admitted to Wellington Hospital emergency department and was in a stable condition
Also on Sunday the 20th Jan at 1137 the Wellington Westpac rescue helicopter was called again to the karapoti area to a 43 yr old male who had had an accident while riding his motorbike
The Westpac Helicopter responded to the scene to uplift the paitent and a Wellington Free Paramedic. The Helicopter was able to land on the forestry road near the patient.
The Wellington Free Ambulance Rescue squad and the paramedic assisted in helping load the patient into the helicopter.
The patient was then flown to Wellington Hospital Emergency Department with possible Spinal injuries and bruising to his back.
