Funeral of Sir Edmund Hillary
Auckland City Council have been working with the Department of Internal Affairs on arrangements for the funeral of Sir Edmund Hillary, to be held at 11am Tuesday, 22 January.
Public screening
Big screens will also be in Auckland Domain adjacent to the Auckland War Memorial Museum and the Eastern Viaduct area in the Viaduct Harbour for the service to be screened live.
Members of the public who wish to watch the service are advised to use this facility as the funeral service at St Mary's Church and live broadcast in Holy Trinity Cathedral will be for invited guests only.
The funeral will also be broadcast live by TVNZ on Channel 1.
Transport and road closures
People are advised to use public transport to travel to the Domain. Free shuttle buses are available from Britomart. For more information on public transport options visit www.maxx.co.nz or ring (09) 366 6400.
There will be road closures in and around St Mary's Church and Holy Trinity Cathedral, Parnell on Tuesday, 22 January.
Parnell Road (St Georges Bay Road to Maunsell Road), St Stephens Avenue (Brighton Road to Parnell Road) and Birdwood Crescent, Parnell will be closed from approximately 10am to 2pm on Tuesday, 22 January 2008. Road closures may be extended in the interests of public safety at the discretion of the police.
Detours will be in place and signposted to minimise traffic congestion at the Cathedral. People are advised against non-essential visits to the area all day Monday and Tuesday until 3pm.
Parking restrictions will be in place surrounding the Holy Trinity Cathedral on the following streets: St Stephens Avenue, Brighton Road, Ayr Street, Birdwood Crescent, Cathedral Place and Parnell Road on Monday, 21 and Tuesday, 22 January.
Some restrictions will be in place in the Auckland Domain on Tuesday 22, January however some additional public parking will be made available on the sportfields accessible as signposted from Football Road and Wintergarden Road from 10am.

Parking for VIPs and invited guests only is available on Shore Road Reserve, Shore Road Remuera on Tuesday, 22 January. A free shuttle bus will run from this parking area to the Holy Trinity Cathedral.
Rubbish collection
Rubbish collection times will change slightly in the vicinity of the Holy Trinity Cathedral and the Auckland Domain to accommodate the funeral.
For regular rubbish collections on a Tuesday morning, bins, recycling and paper rubbish will be collected before 5pm Monday evening. If it is possible to keep recycling and cardboard until the following week's collection day it would be appreciated.
