Nominations open for Avondale-Roskill ward by-election
Nominations are sought for the position of councillor in the Avondale-Roskill ward following the death of sitting councillor, Linda Leighton, in November 2007.
A by-election will take place on 9 April 2008.
Nominations for the position open on 22 January and close at noon on Tuesday 19 February 2008.
To be eligible to stand for the position, a candidate must be a New Zealand citizen who is enrolled as a parliamentary elector anywhere in New Zealand.
Candidates must be nominated on a nomination paper obtainable during normal business hours from one of the following: * Electoral office, Independent Election Services Ltd, ground floor, Bledisloe House, 24 Wellesley Street West, Auckland * www.aucklandcity.govt.nz * by phoning the Auckland City Council electoral officer on 307 7211.
A postal ballot of the 63,000 Avondale-Roskill ward electors will commence on 18 March when voting documents are delivered. All votes must be returned by noon on Wednesday, 9 April.
