Sir Edmund Hillary's State Funeral to be screened in Town Hall
Wellingtonians are invited to watch live coverage of Sir Edmund Hillary's State Funeral on a big screen in Wellington Town Hall next Tuesday, 22 February .
The Town Hall auditorium will be open from 9am. TVNZ's live coverage is expected to start at 10am.
A Book of Remembrance for Sir Ed will remain open in the Town Hall on Tuesday. The Book will be presented to Lady Hillary and the Hillary family at a later date.
Acting Mayor Ian McKinnon says the overwhelming outpouring of grief, admiration and respect for Sir Ed has been reflected in the steady stream of people coming to the Town Hall this week to leave a message in the Book of Remembrance.
"About 100 people a day have been coming in to sign the Book of Remembrance outside the Mayor's Office and a public screening of his State funeral in the City's Town Hall is another fitting way for Wellingtonians to share in, and celebrate, the life of Sir Ed," Cr McKinnon says.
