Waiarapa: Vehicle crash at Kahutara

Incident Type: Vehicle crash at Kahutara
A Featherston woman and her three young children were injured in a crash at Kahutara, south of Martinborough this afternoon.
At about 1245pm the woman was driving a Mitsubishi car south on Kahutara Road when she lost control on a bend about 6km south of Kahutara School. The vehicle slid sideways along the road before going through a ditch and rolling several times. It came to rest in a paddock beside the road.
One of the children was thrown from the vehicle as it rolled. The woman and the other two children were still in the vehicle when the emergency services arrived.
The woman is aged 38. She was flown from the scene to Wellington Hospital with serious injuries.
The children are:
* A 3 year old male who suffered serious injuries. He was initially taken to Masterton Hospital by ambulance but has since been flown to Wellington Hospital
* A 5 year old male who was taken to Masterton Hospital and has since been transferred to Lower Hutt Hospital for treatment of facial injuries
* A 10 year old (gender unknown at this stage) who has been taken to Masterton Hospital A Serious Crash Investigator from Wellington attended the scene along with Police, Ambulance and Fire Service staff.
Wairarapa Victim Support workers are assisting support the injured and their family.
