MAXX out on your favourite bands at the Big Day Out
Music fans heading to Mt Smart Stadium on Friday 18 January to see their favourite local and international acts at the Big Day Out can save time, money and hassle by taking public transport.
Offering concert-goers an easy way to get to and from the music festival, public transport options include:
Getting there:
Additional train services will be running frequently from all stations on the network to Penrose station. A return train ticket between Britomart and Penrose is available for $7, a return ticket between Newmarket and Penrose costs $5, and a Day Rover Pass, which allows unlimited train travel after 9am, costs $10. Tickets can be bought at the Britomart Transport Centre and Papakura train station before the event, or at Britomart, Newmarket, New Lynn and Henderson stations on the day. Tickets will also be available on the train.
A continuous bus service will depart from Real Groovy Records, 450 Queen Street from 9.15am to 2.00pm.The buses will drop concert-goers off on O’Rorke Road beside the stadium. Tickets cost $5 each way, and are available on the day at the bus stop. No concession fares are available.
Getting home:
Return train services will depart Penrose station at regular intervals. Late night services to get concert-goers home after the Big Day Out include Southern Line trains from Penrose to Papakura until 1.00am and from Penrose to Britomart until 1.10am. The last train on the Western Line will depart Britomart for Waitakere at 12.43pm.
Return buses will depart from Mt Smart Stadium outside the Athletics Building continuously from 9.30pm, returning to Wellesley Street outside the Civic Theatre.
Extended Northern Express services will operate to Albany and Constellation Stations, with the last service departing Britomart Stop D1 at 1.00am.
NiteRider buses will depart the Civic Theatre and St James Theatre from 1.00am to 3.00am, with 10 routes across Auckland.
