Three Appear In Kaikohe For Serious Paihia Assault

Three men will appear in Kaikohe District Court today facing charges in relation to a serious assault in Paihia yesterday.
A 34-year-old man was been transferred to the Auckland Hospital with serious injuries after being assaulted about 3am yesterday outside the Lighthouse Tavern in Paihia .
The three men, aged 18, 19 and 24 years, were arrested yesterday evening and face charges of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
One faces an additional charge of possession of an offensive weapon and assault on another victim.
Police have seized a vehicle used by the offenders for forensic examination.
The victim has undergone surgery in Auckland Hospital for serious head injuries and is still in intensive care.
Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the assault, but would like to speak to people that have witnessed events outside the Lighthouse Tavern in the early hours of yesterday morning.
They would like to thank everyone who assisted in Paihia, particularly the shopkeepers and members of the public who were patient with Police during the scene examination.
