Council Secures Property
The Rodney District Council is now the owner of the property located at 9 Queen Street Warkworth, which includes the
Establishment Hotel and the garden centre. The property was purchased via a mortgagee sale.
The reason for the purchase was to help achieve a number of key urban design objectives for the town. They include the
potential for a town square in front of the hotel, better pedestrian and vehicular linkages, and influencing the final
form of development of the site which contains a heritage building and some of Warkworth’s most significant trees.
In announcing the purchase, Mayor Penny Webster and Northern Ward Councillors stated that it was not the current
intention of the Council to be either the long-term owner or developer of the property.
They say the property will probably be on-sold.
