NZ Police CommCens Alert 16:30 28-11-2007 Auckland City
Location of incident: Panmure
Incident Type: Police Complete School Run for Thirty.
Thirty primary school children were treated to unexpected rides in police patrol cars when their school bus was involved in a minor crash with a truck at the Panmure roundabout at about 3.30 pm.
None of the children were injured in the crash although some were reported to be a little upset.
With the prospect of significant delays in obtaining a replacement bus and the associated potential for concern on the part of waiting parents, the decision was made to ferry the children directly to their home addresses around the Panmure area. Five patrol cars were able to respond and made short work of the task.
It is hoped that the experience of the ride home went some way towards making up for the distress of the incident and would give the children something to take their minds off the episode.
