Location of incident: Karori Road, Wellington
Incident Type: car crash
A 24 year old man was lucky to escape injury this morning when he lost control of his car and drove into the side of a Karori home. The incident happened at approximately 3.40 am as the driver turned on to a side street from the main road, but failed to take the corner and ended up in the property of a corner section.
The vehicle was considerably damaged in the incident however damage to the house itself is understood to be minimal. Neither the driver or the sole occupant of the house were injured, however a passenger in the car has been taken to Wellington Hospital to be treated for minor injuries sustained in the crash.
Police initially looked into the possibility that the crashed vehicle had been racing a second car prior to the crash. This is no longer considered to be the case and no one else is being sought in relation to this matter. The driver of the vehicle underwent alcohol testing procedures at the time. It is expected that charges will be laid arising out of this event.
