Police: Te Puke Homicide Enquiry
'Tauranga Police have commenced a Homicide investigation following the death of a male in the main street of Te Puke at about 1 am Friday morning after being assaulted.
Detective Senior Sergeant Greg Turner said that the Police believe the victim is a 45 year old local resident.
Police are concentrating on identifying and interviewing persons who were present at the Stadium Bar and Te Puke Hotel on Thursday evening.
A scene examination will take place during Friday and it is anticipated that a post mortem will be held in Auckland on Saturday.
State Highway Two is closed to all traffic at Te Puke and diversions are in place. It is anticipated that the road will remain closed for most of Friday.
