Maintenance needed to secure Northland supply
Essential maintenance needed to secure power supply to Northland - 20 Nov 2007
- power outage required
Transpower will undertake essential
maintenance work, this weekend, on the transmission line
into Kaitaia to ensure a reliable supply of electricity to
the Northland area. Unfortunately, in order for the work to
be undertaken safely, it is necessary for the line to be
taken out of service.
A nine hour power outage is required and will take place this Sunday 25 November 2007, from 8:00am - 5:00pm. Although Transpower’s work only requires eight hours, local lines company Top Energy, will require some extra time to restore the power supply to its customers.
All districts north of the Mangamuka Ranges supplied by Transpower, through Top Energy’s power supply system will be affected including:
Kaitaia, Awanui,
Ahipara, Wainui, Pukepoto, California Hill, Kaingaroa Lake

all side roads within these districts.
In the event of
adverse weather, that may prevent the work being carried out
safely, a reserve day is planned for 2 December 2007, for
the same time period.
Transpower’s General Manager National Grid David Laurie said Transpower recognises that there is no ideal time for the power to be switched off; however this line is the only transmission line that supplies the Far North, and it is important to keep it properly maintained so that the possibility of an unplanned outage is reduced.
“Proper maintenance is critical to ensuring that the Northland area continues to receive a reliable supply of electricity.”
