Santa is coming to town this Sunday!
Santa is coming to town this Sunday when the Farmers Santa Parade hits Wellington!
Wellington City Council Events Coordinator Lauren Fantham says the parade is a great way to welcome the festive season. “This is an opportunity for the whole family to celebrate Christmas and the traditions we enjoy here in Wellington,” she says.
Starting at 2pm, the parade will travel down Lambton Quay, Willis, Mercer and Wakefield streets, finishing in Cuba Street. Pre-parade entertainment, including giveaways and balloons, will begin at 1pm.
This year the parade features a variety of traditional Christmas floats like the Swan and the Wellington Weather Float and new ones like The Black Pearl, and Bart and Homer Simpson.
Fairy Trina and her troupe of fairies and goblins will be part of the procession and there will be lots of music from the floats and appearances from Samba music group Batucada, the 7th Battalion Band, and two different pipe bands.
There will be a number of road closures and temporary parking restrictions in the central city on the day.
Parade spectators are encouraged to use public transport to avoid traffic delays and congestion.
In the event of bad weather, the parade will be postponed until Sunday 25 November. Postponement details will be announced on Newstalk ZB.
