Major first step for new home of Hawke’s Bay athletics
A major step in the development of Hastings’ new athletics facility will take place tomorrow at a ‘sod turning’ ceremony at Percival Road.
The turning of the sod and a blessing of the grounds is the first significant step in creating a new home for athletics in Hastings.
Mayor of Hastings District Lawrence Yule, who will attend Tuesday’s ceremony, said it was the first sign that something new and exciting was going to be built on the Percival Road site.
“The sod turning is a ceremony which signifies the beginning of the construction programme. It has great significance for the community, the athletics community in particular, as well as the Council, our consultants, and our partners in this project,” said Mr Yule.
The ceremony will be attended by kaumatua representing tangata whenua, neighbours, members of the athletics community, project consultants, Kelt Capital, and Hastings District Councillors, Mayor and Chief Executive.
Members of the media who wish to attend are welcome to do so and should contact Jessica Soutar Barron, Communications Officer.
