Chip seal issues will be fixed

While most of this year’s Kapiti Coast road resealing programme went without a hitch, recent rain, cold weather and heavy traffic have caused problems in some areas and this will need to be made good by the contractor at their expense, the Council’s Acting Group Manager Community Assets & Services, Sean Mallon, said today.

“On some stretches of resealing, notably on Te Moana Road, Matai Road and Ruapehu Street, the chip has come unstuck from the base with the result that loose chips are in the gutters and on the berms and causing problems for motorists and pedestrians.

“The performance-based contract we have requires that any problem areas of resealing will be made good by the contractor and this will happen as soon as weather permits,” Mr Mallon said.

“The contractor has been instructed to clean up the problem areas as soon as possible, however, we ask that road users and pedestrians bear with us and take care on affected stretches of road in the meantime,” Mr Mallon said.
