Changes to parking in and around the Auckland Domain
Auckland City Council is making some changes to parking in and around the Auckland Domain, to ensure everyone can continue to have access to this popular park and the surrounding area.
From Tuesday, 1 May, changes to pay and display parking in the streets around the Domain will mean lower tariffs for motorists and the opportunity to park longer. The length of time you can park for free within the Domain will be reduced.
"Visitors can still park in the Domain for free for up to two hours, but we want to ensure these spaces are being used as intended," says Councillor Richard Simpson, chairperson of the council's Transport and Urban Linkages Committee.
"Free, short term parking within the grounds is provided for people who want to use the Domain for recreation.
"Pay and display parking around the Domain allows motorists to stay for longer or visit the wider Newmarket, Parnell and Grafton area for work, business, shopping and entertainment.
"The Domain is a much loved and well used park in a busy urban area. Parking is always in demand so it's about striking the right balance," says Mr Simpson.
Details on pay and display locations in the area, tariffs and maximum parking times can be found online, visit www.aucklandcity.govt.nz/parking
From Tuesday, 1 May parking restrictions on the roads bordering the Domain's playing field will change from P120 to P90, and from P180 to P120 on the road surrounding the sensory garden.
