Council attending meeting
Council attending meeting
Kapiti Coast District Council officers will attend the meeting of the Paraparaumu Airport Coalition being advertised for Thursday February 15 but there are strict limitations on how much they can say because of legal issues arising out of the Council’s earlier decision.
Acting Chief Executive Kevin Jefferies says the Council’s refusal last week to publicly notify the private plan change for the Airport meant the decision was potentially subject to Environment Court review.
“Andrew Guerin and I will attend the meeting but the only subject we can discuss is the process and none of the details of the application itself. This is due to the potential for appeal and the fact that the matter and the Council decision could be subject to court review.
“Both Council officers and elected members want to ensure there is a transparent process and that dialogue is encouraged but the ability of officers to comment is severely restricted at this time,” Mr Jefferies said.
The Mayor received an invitation to attend the meeting.
“Unfortunately the Mayor has a prior engagement in Christchurch on that day. This has been arranged for several months and cannot be changed now. He has told the coalition he is more than happy to attend and discuss the process and the issues at a more convenient time.”
“It would be helpful if the Coalition checked with the Mayor on his diary commitments before advertising their meetings so they can ensure their meeting receives the attendance and attention it deserves,” Mr Jefferies said.
