CMJ TRAFFIC BULLETIN: SUNDAY 17 DECEMBER UNTIL THURSDAY 21 DECEMBER
Transit New Zealand would like to advise motorists of proposed closures for work on the Central Motorway Junction upgrade over the next week.
CMJ Stage 2
Full motorway closures:
Sunday 17 and Monday 18 December – CLOSED – overnight from 10pm until 5am the following morning:
• Southern Motorway (SH1) between Nelson St off-ramp and Wellington St on-ramp northbound
Ramp and link closures:
Sunday 17 and Monday 18 December – CLOSED – overnight from 10.30pm until 5am the following morning:
• Northwestern Motorway (SH16) citybound to Nelson St off-ramp
Sunday 17 December – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am on Monday:
• Port to Northwestern Motorway (SH16 link) including Wellesley St on-ramp
• Grafton on-ramp to Southern Motorway (SH1) southbound
Tuesday 19 December – CLOSED – overnight from 2am until 5am on Wednesday:
• Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to Newton Rd off-ramp citybound
Note: When the Nelson St off-ramp from SH16 is closed the links to the Southern Motorway (SH1) and the Port (SH16) will remain open and vice versa.
During these times motorists are requested to follow the signposted detours while the closures are in operation.
Transit New Zealand regrets any inconvenience caused.
In the event of inclement weather, the closures will be postponed to the next fine evening.
The CMJ Project
Stage 1 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project, completed in January 2005, covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps.

Stage 2 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project extends from Bond St on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to the interface with CMJ Stage 1 near Symonds St and from Cook St on the Southern Motorway (SH1) to Symonds St. The SH16 Newton Rd to Western Springs Auxiliary Lane westbound widening project is included in CMJ Stage 2 works.
The Public Information Centre at 13-19 Howe St, Freemans Bay is no longer open on a regular basis. Any member of the public who has concerns about or wishes to discuss aspects of the project may make an appointment by phoning 0800 CMJ CORE (0800 265 2673).
