Next steps for Ocean Beach
Hastings District Council will consider a Draft Structure Plan on the future of Ocean Beach this week.
The draft plan outlines a suggested direction for development at Ocean Beach and will go before the Council meeting on
Thursday at 1pm.
The structure plan brings together assessment and conclusions on the development options for Ocean Beach as well as
recommendations which will assist the Council to make a plan change for the area.
Mayor Lawrence Yule believes the presentation of the structure plan is a positive next step for resolving the future of
Ocean Beach.
“This work will go a long way towards facilitating discussion on a plan change required to secure a sustainable future
for Ocean Beach,” said Mr Yule.
A comprehensive and independent Resource Management Act assessment shows the areas that may be developed and the areas
that should not. The type and amount of any housing is yet to be determined.
If Council accepts the structure plan on Thursday, public consultation will open and submissions will be accepted by
the Council through to 12 March 2007. If the Council requires more work to be done the consultation period will begin
early next year.
Hastings District Council released an Issues and Options paper on Ocean Beach in April. From submissions made to that
paper the Council adopted resource management outcomes which have been used to guide the development of the draft
structure plan.
