New Panmure train station focuses on easy connections for commuters
From Sunday, 10 December residents and commuters in the Panmure, Mt Wellington area will have a new train station and
park and ride facility located in the heart of Panmure. The current Panmure station, located off Ireland Road, closes
after the last scheduled service on Saturday 9 December.
ARTA’s General Manager Infrastructure and Rail, Elena Trout says, “ The opening of the new Panmure Station is the first
step in the development of a bus-train interchange. Early next year buses will be diverted via the station giving
residents an easy connection between the two transport modes and good public transport access to the rest of Auckland.
” A typical weekday peak train journey from Panmure to the CBD will take a very fast 18 minutes on average. From 4
December, passengers travelling from or to Panmure will also benefit from the doubling of off-peak weekday services.
“The new Panmure train station, is conveniently located in the heart of the area and offers passengers more comfort with
new shelters that give better weather protection, good lighting, customer information and CCTV for improved security”
The new facilities are the result of a partnership between Auckland City, the Auckland Regional Transport Network
Limited (ARTNL - on who’s behalf ARTA has undertaken station construction work) and train operator Veolia Transport.
Auckland City has delivered essential transport infrastructure to provide Panmure integrated and sustainable travel
choices, including the park and ride facility. A bus interchange is currently being constructed and footpaths in the
area will be upgraded to support the rail station.
“We are creating a transport hub for Panmure. The hub will greatly improve local residents’ access to public transport
and provide more travel choices,” says Councillor Richard Simpson, Auckland City’s Transport and Urban Linkages
Committee chairperson.
“The new location of the Panmure rail station, additional rail and bus services, the park and ride facility and bus
interchange will work to increase access in this rapidly developing area of the city.
“Once complete, Panmure’s transport hub will encourage more people to choose sustainable modes of transport.”
