Museum to go to Weavers Park
At its meeting on 28 November 2006, Waikato District Council voted by a
great majority to confirm Weavers Park as the site for the new Museum
development.
Staff and committee members of the Museum Society are delighted with the
outcome of this meeting. Project Coordinator Grant Collie said he looks
forward to working with Council and other stakeholders on this exciting
project.
Grant Collie says
“It’s been a long haul but well worth all the effort. This project will
benefit the cultural and economic wellbeing of the District.”
Museum staff look forward to the opportunity to show treasures from the
collection hitherto kept in storage due to lack of space. These include
the Museum’s collection of agricultural machinery and implements, items
associated with Huntly’s early medical history and many significant
items donated to the Museum by Huntly residents since the Museum’s
inception.
The new Museum development will take the form of a heritage park where
the coalmining and industrial heritage of North Waikato will be
celebrated. Among other historic buildings, a feature will be the Huntly
railway station, moved into secure storage in 2004.
