New QE Park loos ready for use
A Greater Wellington programme to upgrade dark, gloomy loos in the region's parks has seen the opening of a spacious new toilet block at Paekakariki's Queen Elizabeth Park.
The new toilet block, built by Townscape Construction of Raumati Beach, is located at the Paekakariki entrance to the park, close to the picnic area.
"These improvements are part of Greater Wellington's programme to cater for the large number of people who visit this popular park every year and make their experience as pleasant as possible," says Cr Chris Laidlaw, Chair of Greater Wellington's Landcare Committee.
The new loos have roomy wheelchair accessible cubicles that are suitable for swimmers and families. Other features include cold water showers, baby changing tables and drinking fountains for people and their dogs.
Next up for the Paekakariki picnic area is a new shelter building. Greater Wellington has received public feedback on the design of the building and planning is well underway for a three-bay structure with cold water sinks, benches, power, and seating that can be adapted for use by small or large groups.
