Chief Executive role to be advertised
Wellington City Council’s Chief Executive role will be advertised in the new year.
This is in accordance with the Local Government Act 2002 which requires the CEO position to be advertised every five years.
Mayor Kerry Prendergast says while current CEO Garry Poole’s contract is not due to end until March 2008, contractual and statutory provisions and the timing of the next local body elections mean the appointment process needs to start as soon as possible.
“Mr Poole is interested in applying for another five year term, so we will advertise the position and Mr Poole will re-apply.”
Mayor Prendergast says the Performance Review Committee met this week and agreed to the appointment process. The first step will be to appoint a recruitment consultant.
“That will happen early in the new year. Once a shortlist is drawn up, interviews will be carried out by the Performance Review Committee and we would hope to have an appointment confirmed by late May 2007.”
