CMJ TRAFFIC BULLETIN: SATURDAY 18 NOVEMBER UNTIL THURSDAY 23 NOVEMBER
Transit New Zealand would like to advise motorists of proposed closures for work on the Central Motorway Junction upgrade over the next week.
CMJ Stage 2
Full motorway closures:
Sunday 19 until Thursday 23 November – CLOSED – overnight from 10pm until 5am the following morning:
• Southern Motorway (SH1) between Nelson St off-ramp and Fanshawe St on-ramp northbound
Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 November – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am the following morning:
• Southern Motorway (SH1) between Cook St off-ramp and Hobson St on-ramp southbound
Ramp and link closures:
Saturday 18 November – CLOSED – during the day and overnight from 5pm until 5am Monday 20 November:
• Newton Rd on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
Sunday 19 until Thursday 23 November – CLOSED – overnight from 8.30pm until 5am the following morning:
• Western Springs on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) eastbound
Sunday 19 until Tuesday 21 November – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am the following morning:
• Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to Newton Rd off-ramp citybound
Monday 20 November – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am the following morning:
• Grafton on-ramp to Southern Motorway (SH1) southbound
Monday 20 until Thursday 23 November – CLOSED – overnight from 10.30pm until 5am the following morning:
• Hobson St on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
Monday 20 and Tuesday 21 November – CLOSED – overnight from 10.30pm until 5am the following morning:
• Wellington St on-ramp to Northern Motorway (SH1) northbound
Monday 20 and Thursday 23 November – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am the following morning:
• Port to Northwestern Motorway (SH16 link) including Wellesley St on-ramp
Wednesday 22 and Thursday 23 November – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am the following morning:
• Northwestern Motorway to Southern Motorway (SH16 to SH1) link southbound
• Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to Port Link portbound
Thursday 23 November – CLOSED – overnight from 10pm until 5am the next morning:
• Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to St Lukes Rd off-ramp
During these times motorists are requested to follow the signposted detours while the closures are in operation.
Transit New Zealand regrets any inconvenience caused.
In the event of inclement weather, the closures will be postponed to the next fine evening.
The CMJ Project
Stage 1 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project, completed in January 2005, covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps.

Stage 2 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project extends from Bond St on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to the interface with CMJ Stage 1 near Symonds St and from Cook St on the Southern Motorway (SH1) to Symonds St. The SH16 Newton Rd to Western Springs Auxiliary Lane westbound widening project is included in CMJ Stage 2 works.
The Public Information Centre at 13-19 Howe St, Freemans Bay is no longer open on a regular basis. Any member of the public who has concerns about or wishes to discuss aspects of the project may make an appointment by phoning 0800 CMJ CORE (0800 265 2673).
