Quad Bar surprises
There's a new intimate, stylish and sophisticated bar in town.
Tucked away in the lobby of Auckland's exciting new The Quadrant hotel is the Quad Bar, the work of renowned restaurant and bar designer Tom Skyring.
Skyring, the creative force behind Dine and Pasha, describes the Quad Bar as "an eclectic collection of elements that encapsulate the Quadrant's patrons in a unique day and night experience".
The intimate bar is distinguished by exquisite hand-made silk embroidered wallpapers and imported leather furnishings.
The main bar area is complemented by a small open-air courtyard and a private room catering for small groups. The latter is dominated by a risqué blushing zettel - a recent light fitting design released in Milan in 2005 featuring images of naked Japanese porcelain dolls.
Head barman James Comyn joins the Quad Bar from the Gin Room and Wine Loft and brings with him a wealth of experience and knowledge.
"Quad Bar is a fantastic spot and one I feel very proud to be heading up. I am confident it will quickly become known as a destination bar and not just another hotel bar for residents.
"We have developed an impressive drinks menu which includes the Quad Bar's very own Ultra-Violet cocktail - it is unlike anything you have ever tasted before. And our tapas menu caters to the most discerning tastebuds."
It's not only at night the bar comes into its own. With a compact area to work with, Tom Skyring's design challenge was to present a versatile and effective space.
"It is an area that is used day and night," the designer says. "Visitors, guests and residents use it at breakfast time, for refreshment during the day and for evening drinks.
"So we have made sure that, while the space doesn't change, the way the products are presented does. On the morning after, no one wants to be confronted by the cause of the previous night's indulgences."
The Quadrant - Auckland general manager Hayden Porter says the Quad Bar is an integral part of the hotel's offerings and its completion means The Quadrant is now fully operational.
"Location, design, quality and service at an affordable price are at the heart of The Quadrant's philosophy and these elements have been embodied in the Quad Bar. The design is sleek and stylish, our bar staff among the best, and our comprehensive bar menu is competitive and affordable."
Quad Bar is open late seven days a week and is located in The Quadrant - Auckland, 10 Waterloo Quadrant.
