Chaos Ahead With Too Many New And Conflicting Local/Central Government Initiatives
An avalanche of central/local government initiatives in the last few weeks - plus some still to come - is about to
overwhelm Mr and Mrs Average Aucklander.
Look at this list of just eight of these initiatives;-
1. Consultation on Transits proposal for tolls on the Western Ring Route.
2. Consultation on Congestion Charges and Road Pricing for Auckland’s arterial roading system.
3. The Independent Inquiry into Rates.
4. The location for the new stadium for Rugby World Cup – and the associated funding needs.
5. Proposals to ‘Strengthen Auckland’s Regional Governance’
6. The Metro Auckland project to create a’world-class city/region’.
And coming up..
7. A review of the Auckland Region Growth Strategy
8. The final report of the Local Authority Funding review project
All of these issues will impact to a greater or lesser degree on everyone who lives in the Auckland Region – especially
ratepayers.
And some of the outcomes will have effects nationwide.
Amidst the chaos ahead, as all these, often conflicting’ initiatives bump into each other, Auckland and New Zealand
could quickly descend to the status of a banana republic.
And in this storm of consultation and innovation Mr and Mrs Average Aucklander will quickly be overwhelmed by the sheer
weight of proposed changes which have the real potential to threaten their lfestyles, environment – and our system of
democratic representation.
And all these issues will involve huge sums of money from, either or both, taxpayers and ratepayers.
With all these initiatives being showered upon us it is clear that government hopes to create enough confusion to allow
it to introduce all sorts of changes and claim that there was ‘consultation’.
It is certainly a time for everyone to be alert and aware. The chaos ahead could prove very expensive to all of us.
