New Zealand's twenty year record as a nuclear free nation is the focus of a visit to Nelson by international peace
worker Kate Dewes.
Kate Dewes, Ph.D ONZM, has been invited by the Nelson branch of the Federation of Graduate Women to present an
illustrated talk, '20 years Nuclear Free New Zealand' at Fairfield House next Monday.
Kate, who teaches Peace Studies at the University of Canterbury, has a long list of involvement at high level in the
peace movement including serving on the Public Advisory Committee on Disarmament and Arms Control and the International
Peace Bureau Executive, pioneering the International World Court Project, 30 years membership of the Women's
International League for Peace and Freedom (Aotearoa), and service as the government expert on the United Nations study
on Disarmament and Non-Proliferation Education from 2000-2002.
Kate features in the award winning documentary, 'Breath of Peace' which won the Sonja Davies Peace Award in 2004.
She presents '20 Years Nuclear Free New Zealand' at Fairfield House, Monday, 13 November at 7.30pm. Gold coin donation.
