The search for a missing fisherman in Northland has been scaled down.
Two men went missing on Monday after a fishing trip at Te Ngaere Bay, north of Matauri Bay in Northand.
Their upturned 4 metre aluminium dinghy was found near the Cavalli Islands on Tuesday afternoon and a short while later
the body of a 58-year-old man was found in the water.
Police Search and Rescue and the Coastguard then stepped up the search for the 20-year-old man yesterday.
About 25 personnel took part in the search, which involved an air patrol, kayaks, small inflatable craft and land based
searches around Motukawanui, the largest of the Cavalli Islands.
After no sign of the fisherman the search was called off at 6pm.
Northland Police Search and Rescue head Sergeant Cliff Metcalfe said the search would not resume until further
information came to light.
