City Centre Library celebrates the big 30
Manukau City Council’s City Centre Library turns thirty this week. Staff will be marking the occasion with a special morning tea with their customers on Friday.
First in line for a piece of birthday cake will be Librarian Gwen Read who has been at City Centre Library from day one.
Gwen has seen many changes in both the shopping mall and library since the doors opened on 20 October 1976.
“The mall was smaller then but as the population grew it doubled in size.
“Back then the library’s main focus was our book collection. I never imagined thirty years on people would get as much information from computer screens as they would a book and that technology would play such as huge part in providing information to our customers,” says Gwen.
