Akaroa overnight stay for Carter Group Heritage Week 2006
October 13 to 23: Celebrate Great times, Great people, Great Places
Those passionate about Akaroa heritage can enjoy a discounted overnight stay at one of three of the town's historic buildings to get the Carter Group Heritage Week 2006 off to a leisurely start on Friday, 13 October.
The Akaroa programme is one of more than 350 events being offered during the Carter Group Heritage Week 2006, October 13 to 23. The full programme of Heritage Week events is available at all Council libraries and services centres, and on line at www.heritageweek.co.nz or on request by phoning 941 8628.
Three registered Akaroa historic buildings offer a 10% discount on accommodation ranging from budget to luxury on Friday. The:
* Chez La Mer Backpackers ; www.chelamer.co.nz
* La Belle Villa Bed and Breakfast; www.labellevilla.co.nz, or
* Oinako Lodge www.oinako.co.nz
each offer a 10% discounted overnight stay on Friday 13 October to anyone taking part in the Heritage Week Akaroa Guided Walk, which sets off at 11.30am Saturday,
14 October, with guide Suky Thompson.
Ms Thompson will take guests on a one-hour guided walk through Akaroa's historic streets after they have completed their 10.30am visit to the Akaroa Museum's "Laying the Foundations" exhibition, which describes the town's builders.
A Step Back in Time Slide Show from 2pm to 2.30pm on 14 October also gives people a chance to view a fascinating photographic record of Akaroa's development with Ms Thompson.
Akaroa is registered as an historic area by the NZ Historic Places Trust in recognition of the town's unique French-British settlement history, its exceptional collection of colonial buildings and its location - nestled in the heart of an ancient volcano.
