Nelson Park referendum website
Hastings District Council has set up a website to ensure the public has access to full information on the Nelson Park
proposal.
The public is being asked to decide the future of Nelson Park through a public referendum.
The website can be found at www.uptoyou.co.nz and contains facts and figures, the referendum timetable, FAQs, a mayoral message, and images.
Mayor of Hastings District Lawrence Yule said it is vital for the referendum process that Hastings voters get full
information on the Nelson Park proposal.
“We want everyone to have the facts before they decide how they will vote because this is an important decision for the
future of Hastings and it affects us all,” he said.
Hastings District Council is holding the public referendum to decide whether to sell Nelson Park and the adjoining part
of Caroline Road for a large format retail development and to apply the net proceeds of the sale to:
1. The establishment of a replacement all-weather athletics track, together with a 1000-seat covered grandstand and
associated facilities, as part of a regional sports and recreation park on land owned by the Council in Percival Road;
and,
2. The purchase and development of public open space in the Hastings Central Business District (CBD) to the value of at
least $3 million.
Voting papers will be delivered to all Hastings District electors between 19 th and 24th October. Voting closes at noon
on 9th November.
