CMJ Trafffic Bulletin: September 23 Until September 28
Transit New Zealand would like to advise motorists of proposed closures for work on the Central Motorway Junction upgrade over the next week.
CMJ Stage 2
Full motorway closures:
Sunday 24 until Tuesday 26 September – CLOSED – overnight from 10pm until 5am the following morning:
• Southern Motorway (SH1) between Symonds/Port/Wellesley off-ramp and Fanshawe St on-ramp northbound
Ramp and link closures:
Saturday 23 until Monday 25 September – CLOSED – over the weekend from 5pm Saturday until 5am Monday:
• Newton Rd on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
Sunday 24 until Tuesday 26 September – CLOSED – overnight from 10.30pm until 5am the following morning:
• Wellington St on-ramp to the Northern Motorway (SH1) northbound
Sunday 24 until Tuesday 26 September – CLOSED – overnight from 10pm until 5am the following morning:
• Southern Motorway (SH1) to Nelson St off-ramp citybound
• Southern Motorway to Northwestern Motorway ( SH1 to SH16 link) westbound
Sunday 24, Tuesday 26, Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 September – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am the following morning:
• Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to Nelson St off-ramp citybound
Sunday 24 September – CLOSED – overnight from 11pm until 5am on Monday:
• Hobson on-ramp to Southern Motorway (SH1) southbound
Sunday 24 September – CLOSED – overnight from 8.30pm until 5am on Monday:
• Western Springs on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) eastbound
Monday 25 until Thursday 28 September – CLOSED – overnight from 11pm until 5am the following morning:
• Hobson St on-ramp to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) westbound
Monday 25 September – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am on Tuesday:
• Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to Port link eastbound
• Northwestern Motorway (SH16 to SH1 link) southbound
Wednesday 27 and Thursday 28 September – CLOSED – overnight from 10pm until 5am the following morning:
• Southern Motorway (SH1) between Nelson St off-ramp and Fanshawe St on-ramp northbound
Monday 25 September – CLOSED – overnight from 9pm until 5am on Tuesday:
• Port to Northwestern Motorway (SH16) link westbound
During these times motorists are requested to follow the signposted detours while the closures are in operation.
Transit New Zealand regrets any inconvenience caused.
In the event of inclement weather, the closures will be postponed to the next fine evening.
The CMJ Project
Stage 1 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project, completed in January 2005, covers the section of motorway between the Upper Queen St over-bridge and Gillies Ave on- and off-ramps.

Stage 2 of Transit’s Central Motorway Junction upgrade project extends from Bond St on the Northwestern Motorway (SH16) to the interface with CMJ Stage 1 near Symonds St and from Cook St on the Southern Motorway (SH1) to Symonds St. The SH16 Newton Rd to Western Springs Auxiliary Lane westbound widening project is included in CMJ Stage 2 works.
The Public Information Centre at 13-19 Howe St, Freemans Bay is no longer open on a regular basis. Any member of the public who has concerns about or wishes to discuss aspects of the project may make an appointment by phoning 0800 CMJ CORE (0800 265 2673).
