Arrest In Wellington Stabbing Investigation
14 September 2006
Wellington's Armed Offenders Squad surrounded a property on the outskirts of Carterton last night and found a man sought by police in relation to a stabbing outside BP Roadmaster in central Wellington on 20 August.
Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Cotter, Wellington CIB, said Marshall Kerehi Mariu, 22, also wanted on warrant for failing to appear in court on 14 July to answer a charge of assault, gave himself up to armed police without any incident.
Mariu will appear in the Wellington District Court this morning charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. He also faces an unrelated charge of theft from a car.
Detective Senior Sergeant Cotter thanked the public for their help with the investigation.
The 22 year-old-victim of the stabbing is still receiving treatment in Christchurch's Burwood Hospital spinal unit.
