Fifty flowering cherry trees
Hastings Landmarks Trust is celebrating Hastings City’s 50th birthday with a tree planting ceremony in the historic
Stoneycroft Homestead grounds on Omahu Road.
Fifty flowering cherry trees will be planted in the parkland that is destined to become the main outdoor reserve for the
burgeoning Lyndhurst development area.
Colin Hosford from Hastings District Council’s Landmarks team said, “Cherry trees were chosen for their stunning blast
of colour that will set the area alight in spring, and also for their reminiscent links to the orchards, that were so
much a feature of the landscape.”
On Saturday, 9 September Deputy Mayor and Chair of Council’s Landmarks Committee Cynthia Bowers, will join Landmarks
volunteers and the generous tree donors, to do the planting.
The Trust kicked off fundraising just a week ago and already twenty trees have been donated for Saturday morning’s
planting ceremony.
A donation of fifty dollars secures a tree and the opportunity for members of the public to be part of this historic
